Unions plan ‘day of action’ to highlight dedication of local government workers

THE Carmarthenshire branch along with other Unison branches across Wales and the UK are having a day of action on Thursday (Oct 17) to highlight the hard work and dedication of Local government workers in providing vital services to the public under the huge pressure of cuts.

Union representatives claim that there have been cuts to 20% of the workforce but those remaining are expected to provide the same level of service.

Unison concerns: Mark Evans

Mark Evans of UNISON said: “It is little wonder that mental health problems have seen a significant increased. We think that Local government workers are champions. We are there for you from birth to old age. What would you do without refuse and cleansing workers, social workers, youth workers, school cleaners, Teaching assistants, care workers and many many more?

“The reality is you cannot live your lives without them. Local Government workers and what they provide are often forgotten or taken for granted. But the services we provide are under threat from Tory cuts, passed on by a Welsh Assembly Government and implemented by councils. Support council workers. Come to our stall on Thursday from 12.30pm outside Café Nero. Help defend the council services we all depend on.”
