Upgraded Amman Valley workshops provide 36 jobs

SOME 36 jobs have been accommodated following the transformation of Glanamman Workshops.

All but two of the 13 industrial units in Phase One have been filled with businesses ranging from fencing and decking, manufacturing of fishing equipment, restoration and repair of furniture, wood-burning and stove supply to repairing catering and ice-cream equipment.

It comes following a £2 million investment from the council to renovate the empty workshops and bring them back into use.

Phase one is almost fully let with just two empty units remaining.

Work will start later in the year on the second phase to replace another block of units as part of the council’s five-year capital programme.

The upgraded workshops are for business, general industrial, storage or distribution use and, once completed, are expected to accommodate 80 jobs in total.

The council’s executive board member for resources, Cllr David Jenkins said: “I am very happy that the upgraded workshops have provided jobs for many people as well as increasing the supply and demand for industrial units in the area. Once the remaining two units of phase one are filled we will then start work on the second phase which will accommodate even more jobs.”

The council holds a large portfolio of industrial and office property and demand levels are currently at their highest for many years.
