A village school will see its size increase after a proposal to increase the age range of its pupils was given the green light.

Vale of Glamorgan Council’s cabinet members approved plans to increase the age range at St Nicholas Church in Wales (CiW) Primary School in St Nicholas from 4 to 11 years, to 3 to 11 years.

The move will see the school increase its number of part time nursery places to 24.

Cabinet members made their decision after the period of time for members of the public to express their objections came to a close. Only one objection was reported to have been made against the plans.

The chief concern outlined in the objection was that the proposal might not represent value for money.

A response to the concern laid out in a council report stated that “the
project costs are fully market tested by the Council’s Project Management and
Cost Consultant Aecom who review the design and construction packages prior to entering into a contract with a contractor to ensure the costs received are a true reflection of market conditions.”

The report also states that the project is also subject to a business case, which will be submitted to the Welsh Government for assessment.

St Nicholas CiW Primary School currently has capacity for 126 pupils. As part of the council’s 21st Century Schools programme, it is proposed that the primary school moves into a new building on the existing site.
