THE Vale of Glamorgan council will expand in May next year with seven extra councillors bringing the total to 54.

Ward boundaries in the Vale were recently adjusted to make up for a changing population across the district.

The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales proposed several changes to the electoral map in February. The Welsh Government approved these on Thursday, July 15.

The changes will take effect at the next local elections, scheduled for May 2022.

Shereen Williams, chief executive of the commission, said: “I’m delighted that the Welsh Government has accepted these recommendations in full, without modifications. These changes will mean greater electoral parity for the people of the Vale of Glamorgan.

“I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the review, the members of the public, councillors, Vale of Glamorgan council, and everyone else who sent us a representation or contributed in any other way.”
