Victim named as police appeal for witnesses to fatal road traffic collision in Port Talbot

South Wales Police is continuing to investigate a fatal road traffic collision which happened on Thursday 27th October 2022, at around 6.40am in Port Talbot.

The collision occurred on Cwmavon Road at the junction with London Row and involved a cyclist and a beige Vauxhall Astra.
The cyclist, who has been named as 38-year-old Michael Blake, died as a result of the collision. He was originally from Newport but lived in the Taibach area of Port Talbot.

Michelle, Mr Blake’s long-term partner, said: “Michael had a great personality and could be straight to the point but behind closed doors he had a heart of gold. He would do absolutely anything for me whenever I asked. He loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and riding his bike.

“It’s fair to say he’ll be sorely missed by all of his family, his children, grandchildren, step-children, mum, sisters, nieces and nephews and so many of his friends in the community. He has left a hole in all our hearts that simply can never be filled.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank anyone who tried to help Michael at the scene, including those who stopped to provide first aid and all the emergency services that attended. Special thanks to the staff at Morriston Hospital who are now taking care of Michael for us while we try to come to terms with what has happened.”

A 33-year-old man from Maesteg was arrested and has been released while the investigation continues.

We are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have been travelling in the area at the time and who has any dash cam footage to contact us.
