Views sought from horse riders in Carmarthenshire

HORSE riders in Carmarthenshire are being asked their views on equestrian access.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s countryside access team is developing an Equestrian Strategy for the county as outlined in the Carmarthenshire Rights of Way Improvement Plan.

To inform and shape the strategy the council wants to know about interests and experiences, what people enjoy, the opportunities the horse rider sees and any barriers they face.

Groups, clubs, organisations and the public are encouraged to part in the online engagement programme which is live today and will run for four weeks.

All information collected by the team will help build a picture of equestrian demand and need in the county.

The council’s Road Safety Team are also in the process of installing new road signs in various locations across the county to educate drivers how to pass horses safely.

The council’s executive board member for transport, Councillor Hazel Evans said: “This engagement programme will identify the geography of equestrianism, what benefits it brings to the county, where opportunities might exist or whether existing resources are adequate to serve the needs of our horse riders. We encourage views off both equestrians and non-equestrians.”
