Council Services have been suspended in Ceredigion on Friday following an Amber Weather Warning. Schools in Carmarthenshire have also switched to remote learning for Friday. There will be disruptions to travel and the First Minister for Wales Mark Drakeford issued a statement urging people to stay safe. Winds of 100mph are predicted to batter the coast of Wales overnight and through Friday. Flood warnings are in place for a large number of areas of Wales.

Ceredigion County Council issued the following statement: In light of the Metrological Office Amber Weather Warning for Storm Eunice on Friday, and following discussions within the multi- agency Dyfed Powys Local Resilience Forum (LRF), a decision has been made by Ceredigion County Council to close the following services tomorrow in Ceredigion to protect both Council staff and residents; to restrict any unnecessary journeys for staff (excluding staff who will be dealing with the crisis):

Council leisure centres and swimming pools. The Leisure Centres will be used as rest centres if needed
Ceredigion Museum and Theatr Felinfach
Council libraries
Waste Collection Services. Residents are asked to represent their waste on their next scheduled collection day
Household Waste Sites
All schools in Ceredigion will deliver remote learning; all school buildings will be closed.

Coastal streets, including Aberystwyth Prom and Quay Parade will be closed during the period.

All Care Services will continue. However, issues may occur for domiciliary care staff who travel to visit service users.

Carmarthenshire County Council issued the following statement:

Carmarthenshire County Council is urging residents to be prepared as Storm Eunice hits Wales in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The Met Office has issued a red warning of wind which is likely to cause significant disruption across the country.

There is also a yellow warning for localised flooding on roads and coastal areas.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s operational team are on standby to deal with any eventuality and will respond to the changing weather conditions.

People are being urged to check the Met Office and Natural Resources Wales websites for weather updates or call the Floodline 0345 988 1188 if you are concerned about flooding.
