Wales National Pool gets ready to welcome swimmers back

WALES National Pool Swansea is getting ready to welcome visitors back to safe swimming sessions as the lockdown continues to ease.

After a four-month closure, the pool is planning to throw open its doors to the public – but things will look different to the way they were before lockdown.

A range of measures has been put in place to help keep customers and staff safe, including restricting the number of visitors, social distancing signage and time-limited swimming sessions.

Jeremy Cole, General Manager at WNPS, said:

“We’re delighted to be re-opening. We know our regular users have missed their pool and we have missed them as well.

“We’re very pleased to be able to welcome everyone back but it’s important we all follow the arrangements put in place to keep our customers and our staff safe from the virus.”

Under Welsh Government regulations WNPS, like other swimming facilities around the country, has created time-bound swimming sessions for users. At the pool a maximum of 27 visitors at a time will be allowed to book either a 60-minute or a 90-minute session which includes the time to get changed before and after their swim.

In addition to this, changing facilities will operate in a socially-distanced way and there will be plenty of signage around to remind visitors of the arrangements.

Mr Cole added:

“Visitors will also see we’ve introduced a concierge who will be on hand to sign people in and offer any advice.

“It’s vital that anyone visiting the pool for a swim book their place in a session in advance by phone. People who turn up without a booking will not be allowed in.

To book a swimming session at WNPS call 01792 513 513.

“In addition to this – and in line with Swansea University guidance – visitors will need to wear face coverings walking between reception and the changing village. Exemptions would need to be discussed when booking the session.

He said: “Our staff will be playing their part in keeping everyone as safe from the virus as possible by cleaning the facilities – including doors and surfaces – between every session.

“While everyone will have access to changing and showering facilities we would advise visitors to come ‘beach ready’ because it’ll increase their pool time and help keep everyone safe.”
