ELIN Jones, who has been Chair of Hafal for a decade (2009-2019), hands over the ‘chair’s gavel’ to prominent mental health and autism campaigner Mair Elliott in September. The new role of Life President recognises Elin’s extraordinary achievements as Chair and means that Hafal will continue to benefit from Elin’s expertise and invaluable support as a figurehead of the charity.
Elin comments: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed leading Hafal on behalf of our members over the past decade, and I’m delighted that Mair Elliott, who I’ve worked with so closely in recent years, will take on the role from September.
“To be named Hafal’s Life President is an absolute honour and an unexpected surprise. My promise to members has been that I will always support the work Hafal does, and being made a Life President provides me with the perfect vehicle to achieve that.
“A big ‘diolch yn fawr’ – thank you – to all Hafal’s members, clients and staff for your continued support! I look forward to flying the flag for Hafal at every opportunity in the coming years.”
As Life President of Hafal Elin Jones will represent the charity at a local and national level, and campaign on behalf of its members for improved services and support.
Chief Executive Alun Thomas said: “Under Elin’s leadership Hafal has more than doubled in size, successfully campaigned for a new mental health law, opened its own mental health hospital and extended its services to a host of new client groups.
“Elin has been a driving force for Hafal – and her committment to supporting people affected by a mental illness is second to none. So we are thrilled that she will continue to play such a vital role as we continue to campaign for a better deal for vulnerable groups in Wales. Diolch, Elin!”
