Work to extend welsh school site starts soon

WORK to refurbish and extend the former Welsh school site in Haverfordwest could soon be started.

A formal invite to tender for the work at the former Ysgol Glan Cleddau site is set to be signed off by the cabinet member for education and lifelong learning Cllr Guy Woodham.

The plan is to refurbish the buildings to house Ysgol Waldo Williams – made up of the former Mount Airey and Haverfordwest VC primary schools – on one site.

Funding is included in Pembrokeshire County Council’s Band A capital programme for 21st Century Schools programme, an individual cabinet member report states.

The suitability of the site to accommodate Ysgol Waldo Williams was discussed in November 2018 and following a feasibility study – which included reference to the need to remove some asbestos – it was found to be “a satisfactory building in the right location in Haverfordwest.”

Cllr Woodham is recommended to approve the decision to invite and evaluate tenders under the council’s scheme of delegation. A decision will be published in due course.

It is recommended for approval to “programme for the delivery of new Haverfordwest Primary School in Haverfordwest is achieved.”
