Young fundraiser wins prestigious award

LLANEDI Community Council is proud to announce the winner of the 2019 Terry Price Award.

The Award is presented annually by Llanedi Community Council to recognise excellence on the part of a young person under the age of 25 in any field of endeavour.

This year’s worthy winner is Ellie Lewis, a Year 6 pupil at Ysgol Yr Hendy who is undertaking a series of tough challenges in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Unit in Llandough Hospital.

The award was presented by Cllr Tina Higgins in her first official duty as the new Chair of Llanedi Community Council. To raise money for Llandough, Ellie has already climbed Pen-y-Fan 5 times, with another climb planned for June.

She’s not stopping there though, as amazingly for a ten year old, she will also be undertaking the gruelling 29 mile S.A.S. ‘Fan Dance’ and then conquering Snowdon later this summer. She is doing this as a huge thank you to the staff at the hospital for helping her father and her family when ‘Dadi is very unwell’.

Ellie has already exceeded her target of raising £5000 and the funds and messages of support keep rolling in. If anyone would like to sponsor Ellie there is a Just Giving web page. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/elliesjounrney.

The Terry Price Award recognises excellence on the part of a young person under the age of 25 and is open to residents of the Community of Llanedi, i.e. the villages of Tycroes, Llanedi, Fforest and Hendy (including Talyclun).

The Award consists of an inscribed trophy and the sum of £100. Nominations for next year will close on 20th February 2020.
