UKIP AM calls on constituents to support walking in Wales

NEIL Hamilton, AM for Mid & West Wales and Leader of UKIP Wales, is calling on constituents to put on their hiking boots to celebrate walking in Wales.

Mr Hamilton, Party Spokesman for Culture and the Environment, is urging people to get out in the fresh air and take part in the Wales Coast Path Festival running from May 4 – 19.

To celebrate the path’s seventh birthday The Ramblers Association, in partnership with Natural Resources Wales, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Visit Wales, have organised seven exciting walks in seven locations.

Mr Hamilton said:

“I am an enthusiastic supporter of the work of The Ramblers Association and congratulate them on this initiative.

“Wales is rich in glorious coastal areas to walk and roam and any event which promotes this should be fully supported.

“I am delighted to see so many events planned in my Region, and I would urge everyone in Gwynedd, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, who is physically able to do so, to make sure they get out and about and take part, even if only for a short distance.

“The seven day festival will take in some of the most breathtaking locations in Wales along the 870 mile path and, apart from supporting our heritage, it is also a splendid way of keeping fit and healthy.”

Organisers have put together a programme of seven specially guided walks starting in north Wales on Saturday May 4 running down to the south.

They include Porthmadog, Gwynedd on Monday May 6, Cwm Tydu, Ceredigion on Saturday May 11, Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire on Sunday May 12 and Burry Port, Carmarthenshire on Saturday May 18.

2019 is the Visit Wales ‘Year of Discovery’ and Ramblers groups across Wales, along with Keep Wales Tidy and other walking organisations, will bring the coast path to life and surprise you with some very unique discoveries. 

All walks and activities will be led by experienced walk leaders and the programme will include short, accessible walks, family friendly walks and longer challenges to suit everyone.
