A decision on whether to allow an affordable dwelling in Bethania has been deferred for further discussions.

Members of Ceredigion County Council’s development control committee felt an application for a 137 square metre house on land by College Farm was “the type of application we would like to support.”

However, it had been recommended for refusal with grounds including highway safety matters as well as its status as an “other location.”

Information received by the committee, provided after the planning report had been written, outlined ways of overcoming highway problems, including a proposal to improve visibility splays on third party land.

Local member Cllr Dafydd Edwards said at Wednesday’s meeting (August 11): “This is a young family looking for a way to remain in the area. I’m of the opinion that this is fairly close to our policy.

“This is on the outskirts of the village and as you know these rural villages are quite spread out, it’s only a stone’s throw from the nearest house.”

Cllr Bryan Davies added his support for the application, which he said was “acceptable in size” and well related to the surrounding area, proposing the decision be deferred for further consideration of the highway plan submitted.
