Local & National News for Wales

NEIL Hamilton, AM for Mid & West Wales and Leader of UKIP Wales has welcomed news of extra funding for Wales’ national parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Mr Hamilton was commenting after it was announced the Welsh Government would be providing additional investment to enable key improvements.

He said: “I am delighted to see more money being made available to help our glorious National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

“This investment is on top of the £3million which was provided in March and it is good to see the Welsh Government supporting areas to promote tourism and encourage even more visitors to Wales.

“Our stunning landscapes attract millions of tourists every year and investment is needed to help continue to improve these very important and popular areas for us all.

“They also provide a wide range of recreational opportunities which, in turn, bring benefits to health and well-being.

“I am pleased to see in my Region that Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority is to receive £850,006, the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority £611,000 and Gwynedd Council £59,000 for Llŷn Peninsula AONB.”

The additional funding will enable key improvements to include decarbonisation and greening measures, improved tourism infrastructure, enhanced biodiversity and further support for access and recreation.

Deputy Minister for Housing and Local Government Hannah Blythyn said the announcement was proof of the Welsh Government’s continued commitment to ensuring our designated landscapes and their communities prosper and flourish.
