THERE are set to be by-elections in Rhondda Cynon Taf in May for two empty council seats.

There are vacant seats representing Llantwit Fardre and Penrhiwceiber and, if contested, the by-elections for both will take place on Thursday, May 6.

A vote at full council on March 10 declared Councillor Gavin Williams’ Penrhiwceiber seat vacant after had not attended a council meeting for more than six months.

Cllr Williams who represented The Cynon Valley Party had been a councillor since 2017.

Councillor Mike Diamond, independent, who represented Llantwit Fardre is understood to have decided to step down from his role for personal reasons

If contested, nomination papers for the by-elections must be delivered by 4 pm on Thursday, April 8 to The Old Courthouse, Courthouse Street, Pontypridd, CF37 1JW.

Applications to be added to the register of electors in order to vote at this election must reach the electoral registration officer at the address below by midnight on Monday, April 19 and applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer below by 5 pm on Tuesday, April 20.

Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the electoral registration officer below by 5 pm on Tuesday, April 27

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of a medical emergency which includes Covid-19 symptoms or if someone is in isolation or for work or service reasons must reach the electoral registration
officer below by 5 pm on Thursday, May 6.

The medical emergency must have occurred after 5 pm on Tuesday, April 27.

To apply on the grounds of work, service or coronavirus, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5 pm on Tuesday, April 2.
