WALES rolled on to the Quarter Finals of the Rugby World Cup in Japan. A brutal game at times, Wales went behind early in the game with Fiji getting a try just over the three minute mark. Both sides had tries disallowed shortly afterwards. Fiji got another try just after 8 minutes and it looked like they might just recreate the upset of the 2007 World Cup when they knocked the men in red out.
Almost on the 18th minute Dan Biggar sent a beautifully measured kick into the corner for Josh Adams to catch and go over. Adams went over again after 30 minutes to give Wales the lead.
Fiji struck first with a penalty try in the second half. Josh Adams was quick to reply with a try and Wales began to look like they could take the game. Shortly after Liam Williams sealed the men in red’s intent with another try to put the game beyond doubt.
The referee was liberal with yellow cards for both sides. Ken Owens was fortunate not to replicate Sam Warburton’s sending off in the 2011 World Cup, the ref opted for yellow. Wales eventually picked holes in the Fiji defence and looked comfortable winners. They will face England or France next. The game finished Wales 29 – 17 Fiji
