RESIDENTS and road users are advised that Castell Ifor Bridge in Hopkinstown will be closed next week as the contractor for a recent repair scheme carries out minor corrective work, at no further cost to the Council.
The bridge, which supports Ford Road off the A4058, reopened in 2020 after the completion of a significant scheme to replace the weak bridge deck with a new reinforced concrete deck, along with further future-proofing measures.
The Council’s contractor Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd will now return to the site in order to correct minor defects. This work will require the one-way bridge to close from 7.30 am on Monday, February 15, for one week.
An alternative route for motorists is via Rhondda Road, Mill Street, Sardis Road Gyratory, Rhondda Road, Pwllgwaun Road and Barry Road – to the opposite side of the closure. The contractor has advised the Council that access for emergency services will be maintained, but not for pedestrians.
The work is being carried out during the COVID-19 Alert Level 4 restrictions, and will therefore minimise disruption as much as possible with only essential journeys permitted. All site activity will adhere to social distancing guidance.
The Council would like to thank the local community in advance for their cooperation while this further week of work is carried out by its contractor.
