THE closure of the Toyoda Gasei car parts factory in Swansea has been described as a devastating blow for the local community by Welsh Liberal Democrats Leader Jane Dodds who has called on the Welsh and UK Government’s to work together to help those effected by this closure.
Commenting Jane Dodds Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats said:
“To lose so many skilled jobs in Swansea will come as a bitter blow to the whole community and my thoughts are with the workers and their families.
“The challenge is to ensure that those who have lost their jobs are given the opportunity of training, education or a new job as quickly as possible and I’m calling on the Welsh and UK Governments to work together to make sure this takes place.”
Chloe Hutchinson Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate for Swansea West added:
“This will be a significant shock to the local economy which has been hit hard by Brexit, Covid and other manufacturing job losses.
“I want to see new investment in green energy and green jobs across our area including achieving the aspiration of Port Talbot becoming the principal manufacturing and port hub for offshore wind technology in the UK.”
