Man jailed for rape of teenage girls in 1990s

Paul Abraham, from Cardiff, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison at Cardiff Crown Court.

Abraham, from Canton, was jailed after being convicted of raping two teenage girls and indecently assaulting one of the girls.

The offences took place 30 years ago in the early 1990s.

Abraham, 66, pleaded not guilty to all charges but was found guilty by a jury following a trial in August 2022.

He returned to court on Friday, September 30 and was sentenced to 18 years in prison, two-thirds of which he will serve behind bars before he is eligible for parole.

We began an investigation when one of the women contacted the force in November 2019.

Detective Constable Chris Andrews, the officer in the case, said:

“Paul Abraham believed that he would never face justice for his abuse of two young and vulnerable victims.
“Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for South Wales Police and this case demonstrates our commitment to investigating offences to the fullest, no matter when they took place.
“We take all reports of sexual assault seriously and urge victims to come forward to report it.
“I would like to commend the courage of the victims in this case who have had to live under the shadow of these offences for almost 30 years.”
