MS reminds constituents of available grant for charities

NEIL HAMILTON, MS for Mid & West Wales, and Leader of UKIP Wales is reminding charitable organisations grants are available to help them through the coronavirus crisis.

Mr Hamilton, a member of the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs committee, is urging Not for Profit organisations to apply for a business grant of up to £10,000 before the end of the month.

He said:

“I remain extremely concerned for businesses in Wales who are unable to operate because of the coronavirus pandemic. I raised the matter last month, in virtual plenary, when I expressed my concern for those firms who fall through the safety net of the various funds on offer.

“I urged Welsh Government to do everything possible to help them, not just now but also with ongoing support as the months go by.

“I welcome any extra funding for our hard hit businesses and I am pleased to see a support package for charitable companies. The Covid – 19 Business grant scheme will allow organisations to apply for financial help which is sorely needed.

“I am, however, concerned to hear of businesses not taking advantage of funding which is available to support them during this crisis. It is crucial that they access the funding which will provide them with a lifeline over the coming months.

“It is always worth checking out whether you are eligible so make sure you do not miss out.”

In March, the Welsh Government introduced two grants to support businesses in Wales. The grants are administered by Ceredigion County Council and so far, they have approved 1,892 applications and paid out a total of £23.3 million.
Out of an estimated 3,000 total potentially eligible businesses across Ceredigion, 30% of these are still yet to apply for the grant. Eligible businesses are urged to submit their applications by 5pm on 30 June; the date when the grant scheme will come to an end.
The Council is urging businesses who are unsure if they’re eligible for the scheme to look at its ‘Support for Businesses’ page on the website under the main Coronavirus page, www.ceredigion.gov.uk/business/covid-19-support-for-businesses-and-employers/ and look at the Business Grants (Local Authority) section.
