A NEW chapter in Catholic education in Merthyr Tydfil will begin in September 2022 when the three Catholic primary schools and one Catholic High School formally amalgamate to create a new all through school named The Blessed Carlo Acutis Catholic School.
Whilst the current school buildings will remain in use for the foreseeable future, a new purpose-built school will be developed on the current site of Bishop Hedley High School. When completed, the new school building will accommodate pupils from the age 3 to 16. Although this innovative process is already working well in North Wales, it will be the first Catholic all through school in South Wales.
Speaking of the educational opportunities this will provide for our pupils, Archbishop George Stack has welcomed the close collaboration between the Archdiocese of Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil County Council, which has led to this significant development.
He also added:
“I am sure that those pupils attending the new school from Merthyr Tydfil and the surrounding communities in the Heads of the Valleys will find in Blessed Carlo Acutis, the adolescent saint to be, an inspiration and outstanding role model in their journey of life and faith”.
