Dyfed-Powys Police can confirm the man who died following an incident in Llanelli yesterday morning was Andre Yan Irwin, of Llanelli.
Mr Irwin was found injured in Coleshill Terrace during the early hours of Saturday, June 29, and died a short time after.
The family of the 47-year-old is being supported by specialist officers.
Paying tribute to Mr Irwin, they said: “We are devastated at the sudden and tragic loss of a brilliant father, son, grandfather and fiancé.
“Andre was a great role model for his grandchildren, and will be very sadly missed.
“We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and support following this tragedy, but would appreciate privacy and time to grieve our loss.”
A 42-year-old was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody.
DCI Anthony Evans, who is leading the investigation, said: “I can confirm we are now treating this as a murder investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the family of Mr Irwin, who we are supporting at this sad time.
“We would still like to hear from anyone who has any information about what happened in Coleshill Terrace in order to build a full picture of events, and I would like to reassure that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
