ON Saturday (Sep 14), St Davids all-weather lifeboat ‘Norah Wortley’ launched to kayakers in difficulty at the south-end of Ramsey Island
St Davids RNLI volunteer crew were paged at 3.20pm to reports of the kayakers in difficulty. The casualties had kayaked from Porthclais to the east side of Ramsey Island. One kayaker overturned at the south end of the island, they managed to get to Ynys Eilun, a small island off of Ramsey, to right their kayak but found that once on the island they were unable to kayak against the tide of Ramsey Sound.
Once the all-weather lifeboat was on scene at 3.38pm, the Y-Boat was launched to collect the casualties and their kayaks, they were then returned to Porthclais.
An RNLI spokesperson says: ‘When going out kayaking please ensure you have all the correct safety equipment and a means to call for help.’
