THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has completed a £2.3 million social housing development that features five homes built specifically for disabled residents.
Clos Holm View consists of 11 homes in total, all of which have been finished to exacting standards.
The site in Barry contains one three-bedroom house, five two-bedroom houses, one three-bedroom adapted house, two four-bedroom adapted bungalows, one three-bedroom adapted bungalow, and one two-bedroom adapted bungalow.
This is the latest in a series of projects aimed at boosting the Council’s housing stock and follows the completion of a 28-home development at Brecon Court in the town last year.
Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport, said:
“The need for council housing is increasing so it’s vital we provide for that by delivering top-quality properties.
“Nearly half of these homes have been specially adapted to meet the needs of disabled residents.
“All have been constructed to the highest specification and will provide comfortable modern places for families to live.”
Certain properties are wheelchair accessible or have been specially designed to cater for tenants with complex needs.
The scheme was designed by Chamberlain Moss King Architects Ltd and constructed by Pendragon Design and Build Ltd.
All homes have been built to Welsh Government’s Development Quality Requirements (DQR), Lifetime Homes standards, Secured By Design standards, and RNIB Visibly Better Standards.
The project was part-financed by an Affordable Housing Grant from Welsh Government and supported a number of apprenticeships, paid and unpaid work experience opportunities, and community benefit initiatives.
