THE Welsh Liberal Democrats have announced that their Spring Conference is to be postponed due to concerns around COVID-19. The conference was due to take place next weekend in Swansea.
The decision is the result of the latest health advice and follows the cancellation of the UK-wide Liberal Democrat conference alongside the cancellation of Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru’s conferences.
The party will now host a larger than usual Autumn Conference in Swansea later this year.
A Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson said:
“It is with regret that we must announce the postponement of our Spring Conference. This is not a decision we take lightly given the central role conference plays within our party. However, it is the only responsible course of action.
“Given the latest public health advice, we could not in good conscience host an event that could spread the virus or put our members’ health at risk.
“Individuals and organisations alike have a responsibility to play their part in preventing the spread of coronavirus. It is only right that we and other political parties cancel our conferences to contain the virus.
“We look forward hosting a larger than usual Autumn Conference in Swansea later this year once coronavirus is under control. This will allow all our members to be fully involved with the party without having to risk their wellbeing.”
