World Cup semi-final set for big screen show

RUGBY fans are getting the chance to see Wales’ final two games of the Rugby World Cup on Swansea’s Giant screen in the city centre.

As the countdown continues to what promises to be an epic semi-final clash against South Africa on Sunday morning, rugby fans can make arrangements to watch the game live on the big screen.

And if Wales get through to the final on November 2 against the All Blacks or England, that will be shown on the big screen as well.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for investment, regeneration, and tourism, said: “All of Wales has been gripped by the exploits of our team in Japan and we’re just 80 minutes from a first-ever Rugby World Cup final. We’re all hoping it will be third time lucky at a Rugby World Cup semi-final for the boys in red.

“The excitement is mounting for Sunday and the screening of the big match on the big screen will be a brilliant chance for fans to get together and roar the team into the final.

“Alun Wyn Jones was given the freedom of the city earlier this year, in this tournament he’s become Wales’ most-capped player. It would be a fitting moment in a brilliant year for him and in Swansea’s 50^th anniversary year to see our country’s captain lead Wales to the World Cup.”

Castle Square’s big screen has been the focus of attention for sporting history over the years, including Wales Six Nations matches and some of the Wales football team’s games in their unforgettable run to the semi-final of the European Championship in 2016.

In the event of Wales coming off second-best on Sunday the third-place playoff, due to be staged on November 1 will be shown on the big screen instead of the final the following day.

The big screen will be switched on from 8 am on Sunday morning ahead of the kick-off at 9 am and fans will have the chance to enjoy the game from the comfort of a deck-chair on a first-come, first-served basis.
