AMMANFORD has pulled out all the stops to celebrate the arrival of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour on Saturday June 15.

A family fun day has been organised with entertainment, cycling activities and stalls, and yellow and green bunting has added colour to the streets ahead of its arrival.

Ammanford is just one of the towns in Carmarthenshire that will play host to some of the world’s top female professional cyclists as they take part in the final stage of the Women’s Tour.

Cyclists will race from Carmarthen Velodrome from 10am then following the route through Nantgaredig, Brechfa, Abergorlech, Talley, Llandeilo, Ffairfach and Bethlehem, reaching the Black Mountains at approximately 12pm then proceeding through Upper Brynamman, and Garnant before reaching Ammanford at approximately 12.30pm. Then, through Penygroes, Gorslas, Cefneithin, Pontyberem, Carway, Trimsaran and Pinged before crossing the finish line at Pembrey Country Park.

In Ammanford, family entertainment will be provided by Jac y Do, Dawnswyr Penrhyd, singer Kizzy Crawford, and Organised Kaos from 10am.

A variety of stalls will line Quay Street, alongside Carmarthenshire County Council’s Actif team who will be hosting cycling activities.

In the lead up to the event, Carmarthenshire County Council is partnering up with Dyfed Powys Police to offer bike registration kits at the Hwb in Quay Street, between 3pm and 5pm on Wednesday June 12, Thursday June 13 and Friday June 14, and from 10am to 3pm on Saturday June 15.

ITV4 will screen highlights from every stage of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour, with programmes broadcasting at 8pm in the UK and available on demand via the ITV Hub catch-up service.

Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board Member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said: “We’re thrilled that Ammanford is preparing to give such a fantastic welcome to the cyclists, with fun activities for all the family to enjoy and get in to the spirit of this unique occasion.”
