THE city of Swansea Aquatics hosted its 2019 club championships at Freedom Leisure – Penlan Leisure Centre on the 21st and 22nd of September.
Swansea swimmers impressed with 250 plus swimmers taking part in the event and putting in a promising performance in the two day competition.
Hayley Baker Head coach of Swansea Aquatics said: “It was a great two days to meet the swimmers of all ages. They showed great team spirit working hard with their coaches and turning out great performances.
“We are seeing a great team utility from swimmers in our first group, academy bronze all the way up to swimmers in Swim Wales National Performance Centre.
“We are lucky enough to have swimmers like Dan Jarvis, Commonwealth silver medalist, [coached by Adam Baker and Stuart McNarry].
“Our competition, over the day competition, has competed for some of our newest members who come local Learn-To-Swim programmes across Swansea and the local area to compete.”
Hayley went on to say: “The club has fantastic support from our coaches, officials and an army of volunteers who do a fantastic job in the background making this competition and day to day running of the club operate so well.”
With the club making big waves of late, the coaching team has been recognized for their achievements.
Hayley Baker has been selected onto the Swim Wales Coaching Development Programme for Gold Pathway. Hayley will be involved in attending international meets and with the leading national training delivery over the course of the year. There will be guidance from coaches from other pathway programmes in the National Coaching Pathway.
Sam Jones [Assistant Head Coach], Rhys Thomas-Burgess [Performance Coach] and Oliver Tennant [Performance Coach] were selected for the bronze group to lead the national skills squad and to raise and inspire the next generation of swimmers coming through the Welsh setup.
