People eligible urged to come forward as Covid spring booster deadline approaches

HYWEL Dda University Health Board (UHB) is reminding anyone who is
eligible and has not yet come forward for their spring COVID-19 booster
to take up their offer by the deadline of Thursday, 30 June 2022.

A deadline of 30 June has been introduced to ensure all those eligible
for the spring booster will have a long-enough interval between this and
the autumn 2022 booster, if they are also eligible.

People aged 75 years and over, those who will celebrate their 75th
birthday before or on 30 June, older residents in care homes and those
aged 12 years and over with a weakened immune system (as defined as
“immunosuppressed” in table 3 and 4 of the Green Book’s chapter 14a
are eligible for a spring booster which can be given around six months
(and not before three months) after the last dose of vaccine was received.

Bethan Lewis, Interim Assistant Director of Public Health for Hywel Dda
UHB, said:

“Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our mass vaccination centres, community immunisers and GP practices, nearly 40,000 people
have received their spring booster.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to access their vaccine
and so drop-ins will continue at our mass vaccination centres in
Aberystwyth, Cwm-Cou, Tenby, Haverfordwest, Carmarthen and Llanelli for anyone aged 12 and over.

“Appointments and transport support* for those who genuinely cannot
access a mass vaccination centre by any other means can also be arranged
by calling 0300 303 8322 or emailing COVIDEnquiries.hdd@wales.nhs.uk.

“If someone eligible for a spring booster has had a Covid infection
recently, they will need to wait 28 days from the date they tested
positive before they can be vaccinated. They will still be able to get
vaccinated after 30 June as part of this campaign if they have to
postpone their appointment.

It is also not too late for anyone who needs a primary dose or booster
to be vaccinated. Drop-in sessions are for everyone aged 12 and over.
Children aged 5 to 11 years old will be vaccinated at dedicated clinics
and so they must have an arranged appointment.

For mass vaccination centre drop-in times (for ages 12 and over), call 0300 303 8322 or email
