PLAID Cymru Leader Adam Price has called on Mark Drakeford to request and to publish formal medical advice from Wales’ Chief Medical Officer on the use of facial protection by the public after the First Minister confirmed no formal advice had yet been produced by the CMO.
Plaid Cymru Leader Adam Price said he was “surprised” that the First Minister had not asked for formal advice on the use of face coverings given the trend of their use around the world.
Mr Price said the First Minister should ask for formal advice “without delay and publish it” for the sake of “public confidence and reassurance”.
The Scottish Government yesterday recommended the use of face masks in confined spaces, such as shops and on public transport.
Two weeks ago German Chancellor Angela Merkel recommended the use of face masks in shops and on public transport whilst residents in Lombardy in Italy must cover their nose and mouth when outside. The French government also plans to give out masks to the general public.
Plaid Cymru Leader Adam Price said,
“I am surprised to learn from the First Minister that no formal advice on the use of face coverings has been produced by the Chief Medical Officer on the use of face coverings by the public given that his Government has faced repeated questions on this issue and that other Governments around the world have already acted.
“For the sake of public confidence and assurance, he needs to ask for that formal advice without delay and publish it, as he has agreed to do, together with the evidence on which it is based.
