Rumney attempted murder: Man arrested and car seized

A 32-year-old man from Ely has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The suspect was arrested in Grangetown during the early hours of the morning and remains in custody.

Police were called to Harris Avenue, Rumney, at 3.25pm on Monday, April 13 to reports of a serious assault.

A 21-year-old man from Tremorfa has undergone surgery for life-changing injuries, caused by what are described as a machete and shot gun.

He remains at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, in a stable condition.

An outstanding black Audi A3 believed to be used during the incident has also been found and is undergoing forensic examination.

Yesterday, detectives appealed for sightings of two men wearing hooded clothing with their faces obscured and a black Audi believed to be the getaway car.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wales, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Due to the public’s response to our initial appeal, significant progress has been made, resulting in one arrest and a car being recovered

“I would further appeal to anyone who has any information, but hasn’t yet contacted us to do so, so that we can identify, locate and arrest the outstanding second suspect.

“In addition to a dedicated Incident Room set up to deal with this matter, there is also a mobile police station at Harris Avenue, where people can speak with a police officer in person if they prefer.”

Rumney residents can expect to see a continued police presence today as area searches and house to house enquiries continue.
