Volunteer crew of Mumbles lifeboats called out assist power boat

The volunteer crew of the Mumbles lifeboats were called to assist a power boat in trouble in the Bristol channel onn Easter Sunday

At 5pm at the request of UK Coastguard at Milford Haven the All weather lifeboat The Roy Barker IV launched to the vessel. It was located off Mumbles head. The casualty vessel with four people onboard was taken to Swansea Marina.

Mumbles inshore lifeboat was also launched to assist the four crew of the 43ft motor vessel with manoeuvring in the Marina lock. While the All weather lifeboat returned to station the inshore lifeboat was directed to the cliff near Southgate on Gower. Reports were received of an inflatable boat floating near the cliff base. Upon arrival the inflatable discovered to be an abandoned toy inflatable ring. The crew recovered the item and returned to station.

Volunteer Lifeboat crew member Isobel Ace said ‘The skipper of the motor cruiser did the right thing to call for help as soon as possible. The weather turned quite choppy and some of the crew were becoming affected by heavy swell. We’re also grateful to the person who called in the abandoned inflatable. If you spot anyone in trouble or anything that suggests somebody could be in trouble then call 999 and ask for the Coastguard’.
